Addressing ACEs and Trauma: A California Public Health Priority

In December, California Surgeon General Dr. Nadine Burke Harris released Roadmap for Resilience: The California Surgeon General’s Report on Adverse Childhood Experiences, Toxic Stress, and Health

The report is intended to act as a blueprint for movement toward the California Surgeon General’s goal of cutting ACEs and toxic stress in half in one generation. The report includes primary, secondary, and tertiary recommendations– that is, prevention, early detection, and cross-sector coordinated interventions, to address ACEs and toxic stress in a systematic way.

The report is a substantial document—you will find the section on early childhood supports, including support for childcare providers, on pages 170-184.
