3 Ways for Educators to Reset for a New School Year: Tips from Edutopia

Jul 08, 2025    |   Educator Self-Care

For many educators, summertime is an opportunity for self-care, reflection, and planning for the upcoming school year. Taking time to care for ourselves and reset before the year ahead helps us to show up as our best selves in our work with young children.

This article from Edutopia includes three simple strategies that educators can practice over the summer to feel confident, energized, and prepared for the year ahead:

  1. Practice Mindfulness. Practicing mindful awareness is a simple form of self-care that can help us to return to the classroom with a sense of purpose and calm for our work with the little ones in our care.
  2. Read, Reflect, Plan. Exploring books, resources, and professional learning opportunities prepares us to return to the upcoming school year with fresh ideas, insights, and strategies to try in our early learning programs.
  3. Connect, Collaborate, Listen, and Share. Connecting with colleagues or co-teachers outside of the classroom offers a powerful learning opportunity for educators and care providers. Take some time to learn from others this summer!
