Latina-led nonprofit, Upward Scholars, is launching an early childhood education (ECE) academic and career support initiative called TeacherUp. Upward Scholars provides academic and economic support to adult immigrants from low-income households so they can overcome barriers that limit their success. Resources available to Upward Scholars participants include tutoring, financial assistance, laptops, food vouchers, and transportation assistance.
With the launch of TeacherUp, Upward Scholars will expand its programming to the field of early education. TeacherUp will build on the Teacher Pipeline Project, an innovative early childhood care and education workforce development initiative launched in 2018 to address the severe shortage of early educators across the Bay Area. Upward Scholars Executive Director Linda Prieto notes that, “With its roots in the Teacher Pipeline Project and its future with our organization, TeacherUp will bring real solutions to early educators who can benefit from our track record of delivering academic and career support for adult immigrants from low-income households.”
