Message in a Backpack is a column in NAEYC’s Young Children (YC) Magazine, that features a variety of suggestions to help families support their children’s learning and development. Each article covers a different topic, from supporting children in learning early math skills to helping children navigate changes and transitions, and shares information and learning activities that can be done at home.
Because it can be difficult during the business of drop-off and pick-up to find opportunities to connect with families, these resources are especially useful for educators and care providers who would like to share simple and accessible information with families about what their children are learning, and how learning can continue at home. The articles are easily printable and available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Farsi, and Chinese. Teachers can browse the list of available topics to find relevant information to share with families.
