Resource for CA-based ECE Programs: Developmentally Appropriate Toileting

California Department of Education’s (CDE) new resource CA’s Great Start, Developmentally Appropriate Toileting Practices Toolkit, Supporting All Children from Preschool through 3rd Grade highlights the importance of supporting toileting independence, to ensure equitable access to universal pre-k programs and children’s full engagement in later learning opportunities.

The toolkit offers a series of steps that local organizations can consider taking to review and revise their policies and practices. The toolkit also provides templates, and shares resources from programs across California that are implementing developmentally appropriate toileting supports in ways that meet the needs of their learning communities.
