Spring Curriculum Ideas

Mar 21, 2019    |   Spring

Spring has sprung! The first day of the new season was Wednesday, March 20th, and children are  probably noticing the changes in nature that come with spring. The heavy rain, green grass, warmer weather and blooming flowers are all fun themes that can be incorporated into your curriculum. To help you get started, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite activity ideas to encourage children to discover the joys of spring.

Gardening

Spring is the perfect time to plant some new seeds and start a small garden. Gardening helps children learn about the life cycle of a plant, and experience a sense of responsibility as they provide love and care to something that is living.  If you are interested in giving this a try, Teaching 2 and 3 Year Olds has a wonderful step-by-step guide on how to get started!

If you do not have the space or the ability to set up an actual garden, you might be interested in creating a garden sensory bin. Sensory bins are a great way for toddlers and young preschoolers to give to explore different shapes and textures. The bin can include buckets, shovels, flowers (play or fresh) and even vegetables! If you’re wondering how to get started, visit NurtureStore’s website for some ideas.

Flower Stamping

Have you tried using natural materials as paintbrushes? Flowers make great paintbrushes because of their natural shape. A flower’s stem can be used as a handle while the petals can be used as brush bristles! Children can explore differences in texture and shape by investigating thee different marks left by each flower. For more information about how to try this, visit The Cozy Red Cottage’s website.
