A toddler in a brown sweater sits playfully, hand to mouth, while a woman and a man smile at them. They are indoors, sitting on the floor near a sofa.

California’s Surgeon General, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, created a “Stress-Busting Playbook” with tips to help children and their caregivers navigate stress. The playbook can help parents know what to look out for to protect both their children’s health and their own. This playbook might be beneficial to share with parents of children in your care, or you might use it as a tool to care for your own family during this time.

Dr. Burke Harris shares that , “prolonged exposure to high doses of stress, can lead to problems with a child’s physical and/or mental health…The good news is there are simple things you can do every day, at home, to help regulate your child’s stress response system and buffer the negative impacts of stress, keeping them healthy and on the right developmental track.”
