Free Relationship-building ECE Resources from University of WA

The relationships we build with the children in our care create the kind of positive learning environment in which children can enjoy exploring and discovering the world around them, while building skills in communication, empathy, and collaboration.  

The University of Washington’s Cultivate Learning Center website offers a variety of free resources for early care and learning providers, including tips for creating responsive relationships with the children in their care, and suggestions for helping young children learn to manage their thoughts, feelings, and actions.

• An educational video that discusses responsive caregiving, challenges to building relationships and ways to overcome those challenges, and much more.
• A free magazine (available to download or view online) that shows the way that positive relationships between educators and the children in their care supports early learning and behavior.
• Free printable tip sheets for educators that highlight many different ways to build trusting relationships with young children (available in English and in Spanish).
