The Harvard Center on the Developing Child released a new working paper that describes the importance of early care and learning environments, not just for brain development, but for the health of many other physiological systems.

The paper explores how the body adapts to the contexts in which a child is developing, with lifelong consequences for physical and mental health. Additionally, the paper discusses how the body is affected by adversity early in life; and how those adaptations can result in costly, common chronic illnesses.
