The places where children live, grow, play, and learn have a significant impact on their developing brains and bodies. Even before birth, the environment that a child is in shapes their growth, learning, and developmental progress, which has implications for their lifelong physical and mental health.
Every environment is infused with a combination of influences, from the cultural community to politics, that can have positive and negative impacts on children’s health and development.
To better understand the complex systems that impact young children, Harvard University’s Center on the Developing Child recently shared a new printable infographic that looks at how one’s environment influences long-term health and wellbeing. The infographic serves as a learning tool and a helpful reminder for ECE professionals about the important work they do to create healthy, nurturing environments for young children.
