San Mateo County’s Cabrillo District Receives $1M for Early Learning

More options for preschool are coming to the Coastside in San Mateo County, according to an article shared in the Half Moon Bay Review, which noted that Cabrillo Unified School District, Half Moon Bay, received nearly $1 million in the form of a grant from the state of California. The funds will be used to centralize and expand its preschool program into one integrated center.

The new program, set to open in late 2021, will join three separate early learning classes all under one roof at Hatch Elementary School:

  1. Its state preschool, which serves around 30 students

  2. The summer Big Lift program

  3. The current special day class program now housed at El Granada Elementary School

Plus, the new program will add a fourth early learning class to offer immersion classes for English or Spanish language learners

The nearly $1 million the district received to establish the integrated program is just its share of a grant that went to seven districts in the county. Over the next three years, the funds will go to merging existing preschool programs, funding staff, purchasing technology and creating an accessible outdoor play area at Hatch.
