Incorporating Math into Storytime: Free, Printable Guides from DREME

Toddler child peering into a display of children’s books, searching for a story to read.

Storytime is an important part of the day in early learning classrooms.  Sharing stories and picture books with little ones not only supports their early literacy skills, but it can also introduce foundational math concepts.  Many children’s stories include descriptions and pictures related to numbers, shapes, patterns, and measurement. Talking about these concepts while reading to little ones can encourage curiosity and enjoyment of math!

  • DREME has a variety of storytime guides available for both parents and educators. Each guide corresponds to a specific book, many of which can be found in public libraries. The guides are free to print, and most are available in English and Spanish. Each guide includes a suggested age range, but children of all ages will enjoy reading the books.
