Position Insight:

Izzi has a vision to increase our impact on the children and families of San Mateo County through expanding our core services. This individual manages our current fund development strategies, and employs creative and new ways to achieve our vision. We seek a professional who can leverage networks and is unbounded by our current business model. The duties include managing and expanding the general donor base through innovative campaigns, communications tools such as social media, and new cultivation and solicitation strategies. Strong collaboration skills enable the Development Manager to prioritize key grant applications ( with the assistance of the Executive/Program Director) for new and renewed funding to foundations, and state
and federal government sources. The ideal candidate will possess strong levels of communication, emotional intelligence and drive to move the organizational mission forward.

Job Duties:

Duties of the position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Institutional Fund Development: Research, write, and manage grant applications for ongoing and new government contracts, as well as private and corporate foundations.
  2. Fund Development Strategy: Partner with Executive/Program Director to develop strategies and tactics to create revenue from new streams; and inform, involve, cultivate and solicit the general donor base. Execute and manage these strategies and tactics.
  3. Annual Fund: Strategize with the Executive/Program Director to establish and execute effective campaigns. Engage and grow individual donors, through innovative methods for generating community-level gifts. Collaborate with administrative staff on planning fund development strategies and tactics for major organizational events.
  4. Major Donors: Support development of Major Donor program. Identify potential major donors in the general database and among volunteers, research prospects, and make recommendations for outreach. Work with Executive/Program Director and appropriate Board members on major donor cultivation and solicitation portfolios.
  5. Communications: Review annual communication plan and apply tools such as quarterly donor e-newsletter, e-updates, dynamic content with Marketing Manager for Izzi website to meet departmental and organization targets.
  6. Department Administration: Support Administration Department in overseeing database management

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 2 years’ experience with a non-profit, preferably in development. Leadership experience strongly preferred. Experience with direct mail, donor research, development publications is preferred.
  2. A Bachelor’s Degree is required. Master’s degree in nonprofit management or related field preferred. Knowledge of the Bay Area is an advantage.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of internet research, word processing and EXCEL. Knowledge of automated database management and development software is a plus.
  4. Experience working with board members, donors, volunteers and program staff on collaborative activities.
  5. Experience with organizing and managing the logistics of events. Must be a self-starter and have a sense of humor.
  6. Commitment to the environment, a love of nature, and an interest in learning more about the natural environments and IHSD’s involvement in local communities are a must.
  7. Background in writing and ability to work in diverse groups is preferred.
  8. High level of integrity and stewardship of the Izzi mission, brand and fiscal resources
